What is a rasp and what is it used for?

The rasp is a metal strip of various shapes (rectangular, round, half-round, almond-shaped) that has protruding teeth on its entire surface (upper and lower). It has a handle, can be held with one hand and is used to rough out, smooth and eliminate excess wood.
The protruding, sharp teeth constitute the abrasive part of the rasp. Depending on the number of teeth on the surface (dentation), the rasp can be coarse or bastard cut (for removing a lot of material), medium, half-soft and soft (for finishing).
