The carder is a tool made up of two wooden boards with a central handle, on which are fixed many hooked teeth positioned at 45°. The two boards were moved in opposite directions, so that the wool positioned between them could be combed (untying the knots and positioning the textile fibres all in the same direction) for the purposes of spinning.
