Shoeing is the process of applying shoes to the hooves of horses and, in the past, to the hooves of cattle, and serves to protect the animals' extremities from contact with the ground, preventing wear and providing support during movement. Shoeing can also serve corrective and therapeutic purposes, helping to maintain proper hoof shape and limb alignment.
