What does “cold” and “hot” shoeing mean?
Hot shoeing means applying the shoe to the hoof while it is still hot. This method allows for a perfect fit between the shoe and the plantar edge: the hot iron burns the excess nail and allows for better leveling and adhesion. With this type of application, the shoe can be kept on the hoof longer. Cold shoeing means applying the shoe to the hoof without heating it beforehand. In this case, the farrier must be able to perfectly level the hoof, and it is considered a less solid shoeing. This method is chosen when the type of work performed by the animal requires very frequent replacement of the shoe.
