The tongs are a tool that the farrier uses to extract the nails from the hoof, cut the excess nail and grasp the iron when it is hot. Usually made of metal, it is composed of two arms joined by a pin with a long handle and a short end called the "mouth", usually squat and curved that ends with a sharp edge for gripping or cutting.
