The rasp is a metal tool with an abrasive part composed of small protruding teeth. It is used to smooth the hoof: by passing it with one or two hands on the plantar edge, the farrier scrapes off the excess part, allowing the iron to adhere optimally. It is also used to smooth the wall, the external covering of the hoof.
