What is a hoe and what is it used for?

The hoe is a hand-held agricultural tool consisting mainly of a wooden handle that ends in a broad, squat, trapezoidal or triangular blade placed perpendicularly. This tool is used to break up, loosen and level clods, level the ground, create furrows and to uproot weeds. There are variations such as the two-pronged or three-pronged hoe, suitable for stony terrain or for work around specific plants. In the past, the hoe was widely used in mountainous areas, in vineyards and on land inaccessible to the plow. However, with the advent of mechanical hoes, the use of the hoe has decreased, mainly limited to gardening or detailed work on small surfaces.
