Is mulberry widespread in Italian Switzerland?
In 2013, the Pro Specie Rara foundation created an inventory of mulberry trees in Italian Switzerland, listing 350 trees, some of which are 150-200 years old. The highest concentration of mulberry trees is found in Mendrisiotto, Malcantone and Lugano, testifying to the strong presence of sericulture in these places in the past.
A significant presence of these trees is also attested in Mesolcina, Leventina and Valle di Blenio.
