How were mulberry leaves prepared before being fed to the silkworms?
The mulberry leaves were carefully chopped, first with a knife and then with special tools equipped with a blade, called leaf cutters.
In case of rain, it was necessary to dry the leaves before feeding them to the silkworms because wet or humid leaves were indigestible and dangerous for the silkworm's health. Drying took place using the heat of a stove or fireplace.
