When and how does the larva build the cocoon (the galéta)?
At the end of the larval stage, about 30 days after birth, the silkworm stops feeding and searches for a support on which to spin the cocoon. Once found, with an oscillating movement it wraps the silk thread around itself. To perform this rotation it remains still in the lower part of the body while the upper part oscillates. To make the complete cocoon the silkworm takes 3 days.
