What is drying and how did it happen?

Drying is the process of eliminating water. Once the bundles of flax or hemp had finished macerating and were therefore removed from the macerators or waterways (maceration in water) it was necessary to dry them: they were then laid out in an open and airy place and then placed against the walls of the houses, so that the heat of the sun could act and dry them.
The bundles of flax and hemp had to not take on humidity to avoid the development of mold, which would have damaged the textile fibers, so in the evening they were covered with sheets and put away.
In the event that the weather conditions did not allow drying in the sun, or there was a desire to speed up the process, it was usual to proceed with artificial drying, which could take place for example in the bread oven.
